The Plume Cuff — 18K Gold Vermeil Feather Bangle with Royal Blue Lab Sapphire
A feather falls for a long time before it lands. It turns once in the air, settles on the wrist, and somehow keeps the whole sky it crossed. The Plume Cuff holds that moment — lightness given a form you can wear.
The piece began with a single feather turning through a shaft of morning light: weightless at the edge, held together by one quiet line of strength at its centre. We sculpted that contrast in gold. A slender open cuff follows the line of the wrist, and across its outer arc rests one asymmetric feather, cut open and raised by hand so the vanes catch light like real barbs. Nothing is symmetrical, nothing repeats; the plume rises, tapers, and lets go.
Down the quill runs a graduated row of deep royal blue lab sapphires, small stones gathering toward one larger oval royal blue sapphire at the feather’s heart. The same deep blue spills into four of the vanes — two above, two below — echoing the luminous eye of a peacock feather, while the remaining vanes are set in cool white moissanite. Every stone is set one at a time, each held by its own small gold prongs rather than a wall of stones, with the gold left deliberately between them. So the blue falls in clean, ordered lines and the white in clean, ordered lines; light travels the feather the way it travels along an edge, and the eye moves with it.
It is finished to a bright mirror polish in a soft warm gold, the colour of low sun rather than anything brassy. There is no hinge and no clasp — the open cuff eases gently over the wrist, its ends drawn down to fine points, and the inner band carries a small, honest stamp: 925, vermeil, our maker’s mark.
This is for the woman who moves lightly on purpose. She reaches for a coffee cup in the morning window and it is there; she holds a champagne flute in a softly lit gallery and it is there still, turning the small gesture of a wrist into something worth a second look. When she gestures, the deep blue runs down the quill like a line of peacock light, and the stones take one point of light at a time. Lightness, she knows, is not the absence of weight — it is balance, worn without effort.
