The Tidal Vortex Pendant
Some waves do not break. For one held breath they fold inward and become a spiral — the tide turning quietly around a still centre. The Tidal Vortex Pendant catches that breath in gold.
The piece began with an image we kept returning to: a barrel wave at the instant its lip curls over, and the small eddies that spiral over dark reef as the tide pulls back. Both turn around a calm eye while everything around them moves. We sculpted that motion as a single, slender ribbon of gold, winding once into an asymmetric vortex — no stacked parts, no symmetry, only one continuous line finding its centre.
At the eye of the spiral rests a cushion-cut royal blue sapphire, lab-created to hold the depth of open water, set cleanly on four prongs. Along the outer edge of the ribbon runs a single, interrupted line of round white moissanite — never a dense wall of stones, only light travelling the crest the way sunlight runs along the top of a curling wave, then lets go. The gold between each stone is left deliberate, so the eye follows the current instead of counting stones.
It is finished to a bright mirror polish in a soft warm gold, the colour of low sun on water rather than anything brassy. The threading is built into the crown of the vortex itself: the fine snake chain disappears into the fold, so from the front there is no bail, no ring, no hardware breaking the line — only the wave, and the chain rising from within it.
This is for the woman who keeps a still point while her world keeps moving. She fastens it over a silk blouse in the morning light by the window, and it stays with her into an evening of dark satin and candle-glow — at a gallery opening, across a long dinner, in the quiet breath she takes for herself before she enters the room. When she turns to greet someone, or reaches up to touch her neck, the blue catches a single point of light at her collarbone: a private reminder that calm is not the absence of motion, but the eye at the centre of it.
