The Valse Ring

Two butterflies, caught mid-waltz, come to rest on your hand.

The Valse Ring began with a single image: two butterflies in flight together. Instead of lining them up like a still specimen, we set one larger and one smaller butterfly along a single slender band, turning at different heights as they circle the finger — partners following one another through a dance.

The larger butterfly, fully pavé-set, is the self you offer the world: abundant, luminous, unafraid to be seen. The smaller one, held in polished gold with only a fringe of light along its wings, is the self you keep: quiet, whole, enough on her own. They turn around your fingertip, never catching one another, never parting.

The line is drawn from the flowing curves of Art Nouveau and held in the asymmetric motion of contemporary sculpture, fixing a single beat of flight in place. The open band has no end — a waltz that need not finish, a self still becoming. Each ring is sculpted in sterling silver under a thick coat of 18K gold, finished to a mirror polish, and offered in three tones.

A marquise-cut white moissanite rests at the body of each butterfly, a point of light at the heart of the dance. The larger butterfly’s four wings are fully pavé-set; on the smaller one, the two upper wings are kept in high-polished gold with a single row of stones tracing the outer edge, while its small lower wings are pavé-set as well. Every stone is white moissanite — colourless and clear, never tinted by the metal.

This is for the woman who no longer waits for a special occasion to shine. In the morning she takes her coffee by the window and turns the pages of a half-read book, the two butterflies lifting with every movement of her hand; before she leaves, she raises the collar of a white silk blouse.
